The Limitlessness Within
How to Manifest and Sustain a Life in Photography
with National Geographic Explorers, John Stanmeyer and Hailey Sadler

The Limitlessness Within - At Home With John Stanmeyer
cohosted with fellow National Geographic Explorer, Hailey Sadler
July 23-29, 2026
So often I am asked:
“How do I make a living as a photographer?”
“How do I become a working photographer in this era when everyone is a photographer?”
“How do I do what you do, John?”
These and many other questions are asked often. The answers are filled with unending possibilities — and why I am so pleased to welcome up to 12 photographers to the 6th Annual At Home, In The Berkshires gathering in western Massachusetts.
The most incredible part of this year’s gathering at my home is the presence of special guest and co-giver throughout the week… Hailey Sadler.
Nearly six years ago, I had the pleasure of having Hailey join me and other photographers for a multi-week online workshop on the theme Feeling, Then Seeing. It was during the COVID days, all of us sequestered in our homes, yet gathered in a profound space of talented photographers going deep into visual meditations.
At that time, in 2020, Hailey had only just begun her journey in photography. A passionate human being with a gentle, compassionate way of seeing, there was something even more evident within her… she was deeply committed to giving herself to her purpose in this life.
In such a short period of time, Hailey Sadler’s career has blossomed in a most profound way. Here is only a brief glimpse of what she has achieved:
National Geographic Explorer — becoming an NGS Explorer in 2022
The Home Collective — co-founder of The Home Collective that supports collaboration of journalists, scientists, researchers, communities, and local storytellers exploring what home means in our changing world
Recipient of Numerous Grants — including support from the National Geographic Society, Getty Images, Adobe, the IWMF, the Berkeley Film Foundation, and the Solutions Journalism Network
Exhibitions — including The United Nations Headquarters in New York City, The Hague, Kolga Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia, and other exhibitions worldwide
Education — a passionate speaker and workshop leader, Hailey has taught and presented at universities, conferences, and in refugee camps around the world
Editorial Photography — her assignment and grant-based work has been featured across The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic, CNN, PBS NewsHour, and other global publications
I can go on and on about Hailey Sadler’s accomplishments — all achieved in just 4–6 years, and all still in continual expansion. I will let Hailey share that fire, that doing, when we gather together at my home of 24 Windows in the Berkshires.
Join Hailey and me, July 23–29, 2026, as we distill the often self-created complexities of our profession — drawing from more than 30 years of my life in photography, combined with Hailey’s astonishing ascent into the photographic universe. Together, we will empower each participant with purpose, meaning, and practical insight into how you can manifest and sustain a life in photography during this ever-expanding era of limitless possibility.
This week-long gathering in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, is for early- and mid-career photographers seeking an extraordinary lift in their careers — a deeper awareness of who they are as visual storytellers, and of the immense power that already resides within them to do in this life what they truly believe in.
A bit of insight to share… these annual gatherings at my home fill quickly. We strongly encourage you to register soon to confirm your place.
We so look forward to creating, editing, meditating, and being in union of expansion with you this July 23–29 in the Berkshires.

Workshop Overview
During this year’s, The Limitlessness Within, gathering at my home, we ask each photographer to bring a vast collection of their work, that highlights what you have created, what projects you’re presently working on, and ideas, plans, fascinations, what stories you want to create.
Each day will be a different experience. Beginning with breakfast together in discussions of life, photography, and career development. Hailey and John will open our lives, careers, our inner being, sharing some of our earlier work when we began our photography journeys, how through passionate giving, doing, we continue to create expanded stories and projects we do today. Each evening, I will be presenting nightly projections in the garden, long late-night discussions and meditations of how you can and will expand your career in this ever-changing, completely fascinating landscape of photography today. These are long days of therapy sessions together, immersed in passion and being.
Communal
At Home, In The Berkshires, is a collaborative gathering! We cook and eat all meals together, turning this old home of love into an ashram for photography and creating, a most intimate gathering in the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts surrounded by nature and the Housatonic River. All meals will be plant-based, tasty, and healthy!
Each person joining is required to stay in one of four bedrooms in the house of 24 windows, separated for ethics and privacy by gender, or in four shared yurts in the garden — the yurts are the most magical places to be…(I will be sleeping in the garden bale)!
This special event is only available to 10-12 photographers.
Costs
Our special gathering is all-inclusive—food, drink, and housing. When factoring in all costs, every At Home event is the least expensive than any other workshop I host around the world. Nestled in the hills of the Berkshires in western Massachusetts, a very pleasant two-hour drive from New York City or Boston, all you need to do is arrive in Great Barrington, MA!
Cost per person is $3700 before numerous discounts we offer to the Workshop Family, bringing the already reasonable career investment to as low as $2860.
Further details are below, and of course, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Epilogue
This workshop is a spiritual gathering on how we expand ourselves, our lives, our careers, and our photography. Frida (Elfriede the Great Dane), her sister, Eleanore, Hailey, and I look forward to opening our home, ourselves, and our spirit to go beyond photography into the realm of limitlessness. ~ John Stanmeyer

FAQs
Is this workshop open to everyone?
This special gathering is open to everyone at all levels of photography who are early or mid-career, even full-time working photographers who need fire and rekindled purpose.
I cannot afford but want to attend?
For each workshop I host, there is always at least one scholarship offered. Due to the intimacy and limited accommodations for this unique event, one space is being provided free for At Home With John Stanmeyer. To submit for the scholarship, you must be a photographer from the Majority World or a US resident who otherwise would not have access to such educational opportunities. The only expense is your transportation to and from your place of residence to Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
How will we live in your home?
Aaaah, good question! In this old home of 24 windows are four bedrooms…one large, two medium and one small, and 4 large shared yurts in the garden. Rooms are given on a first to register/pay and request a room — but again, it is recommended to consider staying in a garden yurt to truly experience the magicalness of these annual events. If you are a couple attending, your room or yurt will be private. If attending individually, yurts will be based upon gender.
How much will it cost?
Wanting to share the love, costs for this workshop range from $2860-$3700 with various discounts (see above). No other expenses other than personal incidentals, transport to and from your place of residence to Great Barrington, Massachusetts, are needed. This means each At Home event becomes less expensive than any retreat of other workshop you may consider to attend because all your housing and food are included.
How do I submit for the scholarship?
Fill out the form below and check “Scholarship.” Include a sample of your work—an Instagram URL or a website URL, or a URL with a collection of 20 images and/or videos via WeTransfer or DropBox. The recipient will receive full, equal access to the workshop here at my home, including housing, food, drink, with the deepest love and support. Visas and transport must be done individually once receiving the scholarship. (NOTE: All scholarships have been filled).
Can I stay at a nearbyAirbnb?
Unfortunately, no. These gatherings are near-spiritual events, the magic and energy manifesting through communal energy.
Where and what is the Berkshires?
The Berkshires is a hamlet in the mountain foothills of western Massachusetts that borders Connecticut in the south, New York on the west, Vermont to the north. I live in south Berkshire County in the town of Great Barrington, a picturesque village founded in 1761. The home of 24 windows where I live and where the workshop will be held was built in 1900.
The Berkshires is the heart and soul of art and culture in New England, with summer filled with events, music, and more. The Boston Symphony summers just up the road at Tanglewood. Jacob’s Pillow, the oldest internationally acclaimed summer dance festival in the United States, is also close by. The world rebounded Shakespeare and Company theater, the Norman Rockwell Museum, MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art), Edith Wharton’s residence, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Herman Melville’s home where he wrote Moby Dick, are all nearby. Civil rights activist, W.E.B DuBois, was born in Great Barrington, and his childhood home is just up the road.
Local residences include Meryl Streep, Yoyo Ma, Bette Midler, and James Taylor. Many artists choose to live here because respect for privacy is given…don’t be surprised if you run into Meryl at the Coop or James at the local hardware store. They are just people.
All seasons in the Berkshires are lovely. Summer is warm but not dreadfully hot (average 27c/80f during the day, 15c/60f in the evenings). My home does not have air conditioning. Old homes in New England are built in a way that stays calmly cool at night, with only window fans needed.
There are no safety concerns in the Berkshires. My home is located at the end of a private road, our neighbors looking after each other.
The Berkshires a place of extreme beauty and nature, with hiking, rivers, and lakes. The workshop venue is located along the Housatonic River, and there is a kayak for anyone wanting to experience this mystical river of flowing energy. Expect each day and night to be long and beautiful. A therapy together in creating and being.
Can I arrive early?
Of course, you can! You only need to sort your own housing and food needs until the workshop begins. I am unable to host anyone before the start of the event due to preparation needs.
Can I stay longer?
Of course! However, the following day, at the close of the workshop, anyone wanting to stay longer during the beautiful days of summer in the Berkshire, I kindly ask you to find alternative housing…Frida, and I need to clean up our beautiful mess too!
Can I eat, drink, anything?
All food we will cook together in the kitchen. To reduce our carbon footprint, all meals prepared will be plant-based — yes, I know how to cook the tastiest burgers, yummy chicken, all made from plants!
Water, fruit juices, coffee, tea, beer, and wine will be supplied.
If you have any special dietary needs, please let me know when registering.
This is a plastic-free home. I ask everyone to refrain from any plastics whenever possible. Recycling is provided when needed.
Anything else do I need to know?
There are always more questions than answers. The answer shifts, expanding as each moment passes.
For now, all you need is already within…the desire to be taken places you haven’t been before.
Opening yourself in being lifted by each other in this communal gathering of coexisting where Frida and I live.
Giving to the limitless that resides within all of us.
I look forward to being with each of you this summer here at our home in the Berkshires.
